Selkirk RCMP are searching for suspects after a vehicle was lit on fire in the driveway of a home in the RM of St. Andrews.

Emergency crews responded to the home on Liss Road at around 4:05 a.m. on Monday. When they arrived, the vehicle was already completely engulfed in flames.

Video surveillance showed that at approximately 3:00 a.m., two individuals in a truck approached the two vehicles parked in the driveway and poured what is believed to be a liquid accelerant on both vehicles. One suspect is then seen starting the fire. Both suspects then fled the scene.

“This arson is very concerning, as there was a family, including young children, asleep in the home when the fire started. It could have easily spread to the residence”, said Corporal Julie Courchaine of the Manitoba RCMP.

The homeowners were unaware and awakened by three people who came across the fire. The good Samaritans knocked on the front door and bedroom window to alert the homeowners to get out.

The homeowners, two adults and three children, were able to get out of the home safely.

The homeowner and a neighbour worked together to drag the vehicle away from the home to prevent it from spreading.
