Two people are in hospital following a collision Sunday morning.

At around 4:30 a.m. emergency crews responded to the intersection of Sargent Avenue and Empress Street.

Officers attended to two people in one of the vehicles, a 45-year-old male and an 81-year-old female.

The female victim had to be extracted from the vehicle. She suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital in unstable condition, where she remains in guarded condition. The male was transported to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. 

All occupants of the other vehicle fled on foot after the collision.

Members of the traffic division have taken over the investigation and have learned the vehicle was seen travelling at a high rate of speed before the crash.

No arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing.
