Emergency crews are working at two separate fires in Winnipeg Friday morning and have closed several streets as a result.

Several streets in the Weston neighbourhood have been closed due to a working fire in the 100 block of Quelch Street. The fire department was called to that fire around 5:40 a.m.

The Winnipeg Police Service says that the following streets are closed as a result:

  • Logan Avenue between Weston and Cecil
  • Alexander between Weston and Cecil
  • Quelch between Alexander and Logan

The WPS also says that as of 6:45 a.m. Weston School is not accessible to students. The school has not posted any notices as of yet about plans for the day.

There is no word at this time on the cause of the fire or if there have been any injuries.

Crews have also been battling a residential fire on Furby since the early morning hours.

They were called to the 500 block of Furby just after midnight. Firefighters at the scene say everyone in the home got out safely.

Several trucks remain on scene putting that fire out.

Furby is closed between Ellice and Sargent as a result.

More to come.
