After a two-year hiatus, Manitoba makers of all kinds gather this weekend in an event encouraging shoppers to support local.

Inspired by a conversation with a fellow vendor at a local farmer's market, Love Local Manitoba was founded in 2014 out of an appreciation for communal gathering and celebration.

"I love just getting people together over wine, food and live music," says co-founder and host Peter Fehr.

Presented for the eighth time this weekend, the event is now recognized as one of the premier food and beverage events in the province.

40 vendors will gather at the Victoria Inn Convention Centre with a little bit of "everything" offered, including: beer, wine, ciders, coffee, kombucha. The food ranges from savory to sweet with sauces, syrups, preserves, and even a potential food-of-the-future, crickets -- in both whole and powder form offered.

"The flavour is great," says Fehr. "They're high in protein and so it's just the texture that's a bit to get over."

Love Local Manitoba's Food, Beer and Wine Event takes place on Saturday, March 11 at Victoria Inn (1808 Wellington Ave.) running from 5-9 p.m. Tickets are $40 and include live music, a complimentary mocktail, and plenty of samples from local Manitoba makers!
