A 17-year-old boy is dead following a collision on St. Mary's Rd. on Tuesday evening that resulted in the busy corridor being closed for several hours.

Two teenagers were rushed to hospital in critical condition following the single-vehicle collision. Emergency crews were called to the area of St. Mary's Rd. and Guay Ave. just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

Several units attended the scene. A severely damaged dark-coloured four-door vehicle can be seen on the northbound sidewalk against a hydro pole. Belongings from the car and police investigation markers litter the scene.

The Winnipeg Police Service says in a release that the 17-year-old, who was a passenger in the vehicle, died shortly after arriving at hospital. The 18-year-old driver remains in serious condition.

Northbound St. Mary's Rd. was closed at Vivian Ave. to Guay Ave. until approximately 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
