Construction begins today on an active transportation corridor on McDermot Avenue from Arlington to Furby.

Work on the West Alexander Pedestrian Cycling Corridor includes a two-way protected bike lane, as well as street resurfacing, sidewalk renewal, and enhanced street crossings for pedestrians at intersections.

The project costs $1.3-million and is expected to take two months to complete.

McDermot from Arlington to Sherbrook is also permanently being changed to one-way eastbound only. That takes effect today. The city says a number of traffic routing changes will be in place during and after construction.
