RCMP have charged a 16-year-old boy in connection to a recent fire at a daycare centre in a northern Manitoba community
The fire broke out just before 8 p.m. on Oct. 18, 2023, at the daycare centre on Airport Road in Chemawawin Cree Nation.
No one was in the building, and no injuries were reported.
After examining the scene, RCMP were led to believe the cause of the fire was suspicious.
On Oct. 19, the Office of the Fire Commissioner determined the cause of the fire at the daycare centre to be incendiary.
The investigation led officers to video footage from the daycare, where a youth was seen unlawfully entering the building after hours.
On Oct. 20, a 16-year-old boy was identified, arrested and charged.
He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court today.
