The Winnipeg Police Service is looking for information after a vehicle crashed into a tree, confining the unconscious driver inside.

The Winnipeg Police Service says they were flagged down to Main Street and Assiniboine Avenue at 1:30 a.m. When they arrived they found a lone vehicle had crashed into a tree. Inside the smashed vehicle was an unconscious man who was trapped inside.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was called, extracting the driver from the crash and taking him to the hospital. The man is in critical condition.

"Police are processing the scene of a serious single motor vehicle collision," Staff Sgt. Rob Duttchen told media early Wednesday morning.

Northbound Main Street, between Assiniboine Avenue to Broadway Avenue was closed for the morning after the overnight crash. Main Street traffic is flowing once again after reopening at 9 a.m. Police are now looking for information about the serious crash.

Winnipeg Police Service’s Traffic Division is investigating. Those with information about the crash are being asked to call 204-983-7085.
