RWB Ballet-Master Vanessa Lawson discusses The Sleeping Beauty with Simeon Rusnak! Missed it? Find it here! 

 The Sleeping Beauty has long been a jewel in the RWB’s classical repertoire. Celebrated for its glorious music, lavish costuming and regal sets, this glittering production showcases the depth and breadth of the RWB’s talented company. 

Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Vanessa left home at the age of 16 to further her studies at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division where she received the Prince Edward Award and graduated with distinction in 1996. She was hired into the Company the following year as an apprentice, promoted to soloist in 2002 and became a principal dancer in the 2005/06 season. Over the course of her performing career, Lawson performed many principal roles inlcuding Odette/Odile in Galina Yardonova’s staging of Swan Lake, Lucy in Mark Godden’s Dracula, Pamina in Mark Godden’s The Magic Flute, and Princess Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty. Lawson retired from the Company in 2013 and continues to contribute to the RWB as a Ballet Master. She continues to guest in character roles with the RWB Company.
