GroundSwell2

Founded in 1991, Winnipeg’s new music mavens, GroundSwell, present works in three formats this 30th anniversary year: live (concerts of new music), linked (radio and online events), and learn (a wide range of educational activities).

Curated by Michael Matthews, GS2: Voices + Piano: Diversions features Madeline Hildebrand at the keyboard exploring how the voice—both metaphorical and literal—works as a partner or foil for the instrument.

Joined by Cathy Wood (clarinet) and Kerry DuWors (violin), Hildebrand also premieres two new commissioned works by Canadian composers David Braid and Michael Matthews.

Admission is pay-what-you-can, how-you-can either online or in-person at St. Andrew’s United Church. The concert begins at 8 PM.

In the full conversation below, Madeline describes the genesis of the program; how the solitary time of the pandemic allowed her to explore her own literal voice in music; and, the journey that inspired the latest work by David Braid. Plus - hear a snippet of Madeline’s playing!
