The Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG) is continuing their expansion to other parts of the city.

Earlier this summer they opened WAG @TheForks, and now they’re making their mark in the newly upgraded Assiniboine Park Pavilion. WAG@ThePark – unveiled yesterday – is a new partnership between the WAG and the Assiniboine Park Conservancy (APC).Thank you for showing me this Claudia

WAG Director and CEO, Dr. Stephen Borys says it will enhance community art appreciation and audience access to the work of living and historical Canadian artists.

“The relationship between the APC and the WAG has grown from Painting in the Park in the fifties to Inuit art carvings in the Journey to Churchill exhibit,” Borys said in a release. “We are excited to expand our partnership further with WAG@ThePark, allowing us to engage the public with art in an exciting new way.”

The new exhibits on display at The Pavilion feature watercolours of Ivan Eyre and prints by Walter J. Phillips. There will also be a new exhibit of historical photographs featuring the original Pavilion and surrounding spaces at Assiniboine Park.

The Pavilion was constructed in 1908.

APC President and CEO Margaret Redmond, is excited to work with the WAG to promote culture in the new Pavilion.

“Our partnership with the WAG is a natural fit and we are excited to be working with such a renowned organization to bring art to the community,” said Redmond. “The Pavilion is literally and figuratively at the heart of Assiniboine Park, and the investment we have made in preserving it reflects our commitment to protecting the Park’s cherished character while continuing to invest in its future.”

The revamped Pavilion is part of the APC’s $200-million redevelopment campaign and also includes The Pooh Gallery, a permanent collection of Winnie the Pooh artifacts and memorabilia. The APC is still looking for a restaurant tenant on the main floor.
