One person was taken to hospital following a fire Thursday evening in Westwood.

The blaze broke out just after 6:30 p.m. in a single-family bungalow in the 400 block of Whitegates Cresent.

The fire was well-involved when crews arrived at the scene. Firefighters launched an interior fight attack but were quickly forced out due to deteriorating conditions. Once conditions improved, they were able to re-enter the home to fully extinguish the fire.

All occupants of the home safely self-evacuated with their pets. However, one person was assessed by paramedics at the scene and then transported to hospital in stable condition. The City of Winnipeg’s Animal Services Agency attended the scene to provide care for the pets.

The house sustained significant smoke, fire, and water damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
