Winnipeg fire crews were busy Wednesday morning, battling three structure fires.

The first fire broke out just before 8 a.m. today in a seven-storey high-rise on Plaza Drive.

When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the building. Firefighters launched an offensive fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 8:42 a.m.

Some residents of the building self-evacuated, others sheltered in place.

One individual was assessed at the scene by paramedics but did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by an appliance failure.

Meanwhile, a couple hours later, at 10:35 a.m., a second fire broke out in a one-and-a-half-storey, single-family home in the 200 block of Renfrew Avenue.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke. They entered and fought the fire from the inside of the house. The fire was declared under control at 11:15 a.m.

Residents self-evacuated before the crews' arrival. Three individuals were assessed by paramedics. Two were transported to hospital in critical condition, while the third was transported in stable condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

WFPS crews also responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half-storey, single-family home on Bond Street in Transcona at 11:20 a.m.

There was heavy smoke and flames coming from the house when WFPS arrived. They launched an offensive fire attack while also working to protect the neighbouring homes.

The lone resident evacuated with one dog. Firefighters found two dogs inside, deceased.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The house is expected to be a complete loss.
