The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a house fire last evening and another this morning.

Cardero Place fire

At 9:07 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a single-family home on Cardero Place.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke in the house. Crews entered the building and fought the fire from the inside. The fire was quickly brought under control.

All residents of the building self-evacuated from the activation of the smoke alarm. They were assessed by on-scene paramedics but none required transport to a hospital.

Initial observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by a malfunctioning bathroom exhaust fan.

Redwood Avenue fire

At 8:46 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey home in the William Whyte area.

Upon arrival on the scene, crews found smoke and flames coming from the building. They fought the fire from inside the house, declaring the fire under control at 9:15 a.m.

There were no residents in the home at the time of the fire. Neighbours were temporarily evacuated as a precaution but were able to return to their homes once the fire was extinguished. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
