Winnipeg Jets playoff fever is spreading throughout the city, and now Winnipeg firefighters are getting involved.

United Firefighters of Winnipeg President Alex Forrest announced today that all fire trucks in the city will be waving Winnipeg Jets flags throughout the playoffs.

“On behalf of all Winnipeg firefighters, we just want to say congratulations to the Winnipeg Jets for already a tremendous season,” Forrest said, surrounded by firefighters decked out in Jets gear. “We know they’re going to do well in the playoffs and the flags will be up until Winnipeg wins the Stanley Cup in June.”

Forrest says he’s going to be focusing on what the Winnipeg Jets do, but did admit that there has been some contact and friendly back-and-forth with firefighters in Toronto.

The Maple Leafs and Jets are the only Canadian teams that made the playoffs this year.

“We said it’s too bad for them that the Jets are Canada’s team,” Forrest said with a laugh. “But we do hope we play Toronto in the Stanley Cup Final.”

The Jets kick off their best-of-seven first round series with games one and two against the Minnesota Wild at Bell MTS Place this week. Game one goes Wednesday, Apr. 11 at 6 p.m. and game two goes Friday, Apr. 13 at 6:30 p.m.
