Metro Winnipeg school divisions have just announced that all school bus transportation for Wednesday and Thursday is cancelled in anticipation of the winter storm approaching.

An official winter storm warning is in effect for the City of Winnipeg. Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

In a statement to parents, the school divisions says, "All Metro Winnipeg school divisions, including St. James-Assiniboia School Division (SJASD), are cancelling all school bus transportation for Wednesday, April 13 and Thursday, April 14, in anticipation of adverse weather and road conditions as forecast by Environment Canada."

The division says that as of Tuesday morning a decision to cancel school has not yet been made. The school divisions will continue to monitor the progress of the storm and Environment Canada forecasts and will make a decision on school opening no later than 6 am Wednesday morning.

If Winnipeg schools close from the winter storm, it will be the first time since the blizzard and flood of 1997.
