Much of Manitoba will be feeling a big drop in temperatures Tuesday night.

From Churchill to Sprague, most of Manitoba is under an Extreme Cold Warning.

"A building ridge of high pressure will bring bitterly cold wind chills to southern Manitoba tonight," Environment Canada says in the Tuesday weather alert.

This includes Winnipeg, Steinbach, and Winkler.

Winnipeg's expected low is near -40 with the windchill.

"Some reprieve from the cold is likely during the day on Wednesday before even colder air enters the province on Wednesday night into Thursday," they say. "The extreme cold is likely to ease by late week into the weekend."

Northern Manitoba will be feeling a "bitterly cold Arctic airmass" for the next couple of days, with windchill temperatures of -45 degrees or colder.

The only places not under the Extreme Cold Warning are the Flin Flon - Cranberry Portage - Snow Lake, Norway House - Cross Lake - Wabowden, and The Pas - Wanless - Westray - Clearwater Lake Prov. Park regions.
