Each year Manitoba’s most extraordinary women are honoured with the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg’s Women of Distinction Awards. We thought it would be great to meet the women nominated in the Arts, Culture and Heritage category.* Guest host Andrea Ratuski sat down with Kayla. Missed it? Watch the video here!

Nominated by Brenda Gorlick,  Kayla is a leader, mentor and artist who has devoted her life to promoting the arts in Manitoba. As one of the first female artistic directors in

Winnipeg, Kayla has devoted more than 35 years to mentoring countless professional and emerging artists. As a director and producer, she has been involved in over 75 productions, including new works with young Indigenous playwrights. Much of her work has provided insight and understanding on race, gender and cultural differences.
Kayla founded the Manitoba Drama Educator’s Association and helped preserve the Winnipeg Jewish Theatre. Currently, as artistic director of Winnipeg Studio Theatre and theatre professor at the U of W, Kayla is a true pillar of Winnipeg’s theatre community.
