Soprano Christina Thanisch-Smith will open the Virtuosi concert this Saturday (Oct 14) ahead of the Cheng² DuoChristina Thanisch-Smith, 20, is a young soprano studying classical voice at the University of Manitoba’s Desautels Faculty of Music under the instruction of Monica Huisman, and is currently in her second year as a member of the U of M Opera Theatre Company. She has enjoyed participating in the Winnipeg Music Festival, NATS Contemporary Canadian Repertoire Competition, and the Manitoba Music and Speech Arts Festival for years, as well as performing as a soloist with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in 2015. Last year, Christina won her fifth trophy at the Winnipeg Music Festival and was a recipient of the Orville J. Derraugh Recital Scholarship. Presently, Christina is the winner of the 2017 Zita Bernstein Competition and received runner up for the 2017 Tudor Bowl.

She was one of the winners of the Virtuosi Young Artists Awards for 2017-2018, and will be performing as the opening act for the Cheng Duo Saturday October 14th at the Virtuosi Concert Series.
