Manitobans looking for some new bling will have an opportunity on Wednesday to walk away with more. Appelt's Diamonds has been celebrating Canadian love stories and serving Winnipeggers since 1938 and is offering a unique shopping experience on September 24. "I will be at the Appelt's Diamond Polo Park store," Celebrity Stylist, Kim Appelt, says. "I will be there during the day from 12 to 4, saying hi to people." "It's all about how to dress for your own style and body shape. If you have an hourglass body and I have a pear-shaped body, our basics would be very different, like my white shirt and the jeans that I wear will look very different than yours. The same thing is true of jewelry." She says that what looks best on each person is determined by a number of factors. "If you have a shorter neck or thinner fingers, which pieces are good for you? So I'm there at the store saying hi to people. They get a book with something they purchase. I'll sign it and I love shopping so I'm happy to help people who want to shop and buy pieces, but specifically, I'm there to help people buy for their body shape." Design and styling have always been a passion for Appelt. "I have been styling literally since I was four. I grew up in Gaborone in Botswana. And I have a little sister that I used to style. I grew up literally styling her when we first moved there. She became my living doll." Between her sister and friends, Appelt loved helping others find what worked best for their body. "I would go out in university with my girlfriends and they would struggle with what to wear and I would dive into my closet. They would come over and make them new outfits. It gave me great joy to see them feeling so comfortable in their clothes." "My very first client at the daytime Emmys, I met him at the carpet, and it's always better to dress your client in person. But he assured me he could get dressed and meet me at the carpet, and in doing so, didn't have his bow tie and he was presenting. "He had a bow tie, but it was a one that needed to be tied. I ended up meeting Sharon Osborne and we were running around the green room asking people for help tying this bow tie because it was incredibly difficult." While working with celebrities is a highlight, Appelt enjoys getting to know them as people. "At that time, Sharon Osbourne was larger than life and Ozzie and her had their show going and she was just a beautiful human, willing to stop what she was doing and was like, 'Yeah, let's go find someone to tie this bow tie together."
