Serving Opera by the Pint in western Manitoba
A summer classical music staple of Winnipeg patios is now getting a chance to shine outside the Perimeter Highway. Flipside Opera and Art Song Collective’s Opera by the Pint is performing one final time for the summer at their usual venue, Little Brown Jug Brewing in the Exchange District, before heading to perform in Brandon at Section 6 Brewing Company and Minnedosa at the Minnedosa Pavillion over the weekend. .embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; } For artistic director Judy Oatway, the expansion of Opera by the Pint represents an opportunity to showcase new vocal talent. “One of our favourite things is seeing, one, how many amazing musicians that we have at our resources and that are interested in performing,” she said, “and then, also connecting with audiences in such a fun way.” Oatway, along with board members Lisa Rumpel and Aaron Hutton, have plenty of ties to western Manitoba. “We’re hoping that as this becomes more established and becomes part of our regular offerings, we can spread the word a little bit more,” says Rumpel, hinting at future plans for the company. But I know that in Minnedosa, it’s a really supportive community.” Before heading out on the road, Flipside Opera will turn to its established cast on call for its final performance in Winnipeg, including Hutton, sopranos Sara Schabas and Diana Rockwell, mezzo soprano Geneva Halverson, and baritone Jayden Fraser with Lisa Rumpel accompanying. The performance starts at 7 p.m. on September 24. For more information on the company’s tour, visit their website.
