Police investigate homicide on Portage Avenue
A busy section of Portage Avenue remains closed Sunday morning after a man was found with serious injuries. Just after 2 a.m., officers responded to Portage Avenue and Arlington Street following reports of an injured male in the area. When officers arrived they found a 46-year-old man with serious injuries. Officers provided medical care until emergency crews arrived at the scene. The man was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries. As a result, eastbound Portage Avenue is closed at Arlington Street and Arlington Street is closed north of Portage Avenue. ROAD CLOSURE: Due to an ongoing investigation, eastbound Portage Av near Arlington St. is closed to traffic. North and southbound Arlington St., just north or Portage Av. is also closed. The Winnipeg Police Service is asking motorists to avoid the area and find another route. The Homicide Unit has taken over this investigation and is asking anyone with information, including video surveillance, to contact investigators at 204-986-6508 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS.
