Niagara River Lions are crowned CEBL Champions of 2025!
The Niagara River Lions have done it again! For the second year in a row, the River Lions have emerged as the victors of the Canadian Elite Basketball League Championship. It was a fierce battle between the Calgary Surge and Niagara River Lions, with both teams having strong yet different motivations. The Surge were keen on grabbing the title this year, as it was their third appearance in a row in the CEBL Championship Playoffs. The River Lions on the other hand, were motivated to prove that they could accomplish again what they did last year. The game began with an early lead for the Calgary Surge but by the end of the first quarter, it was a tight game with a one-point margin, 21-20, for the River Lions. The Surge were still in the fight by halftime, with a half-court buzzer-beater by Jameer Nelson Jr. for the team. The River Lions, however, dug deep and came out triumphant after the game-winner by Khalil Ahmad from the free throw line, with a final score of 79-73. "This is a special moment," said Vic Raso, Head Coach of the Niagara River Lions, about winning the title. He continued, "It feels different than last year's for sure, but it's as special a moment that I've ever had as a coach. This one for these guys [Niagara River Lions], it just cemented them."
