Stolen banjo reunited with owner in heartwarming turn of events
It's a reunion that had everyone singing. While out on foot patrol on Wednesday, officers ran into a woman named Debbie who alerted them that her one‑of‑a‑kind banjo, which held enormous sentimental value, was stolen from her car while parked downtown. Officers put out a BOLO, and within five minutes officers heard from a local pawnshop owner who became suspicious of an attempted transaction. The shop kept the banjo and let the Winnipeg Police Service know. Debbie was notified and on Thursday she picked up her banjo from the shop. "In almost 30 years of policing our city, I don't believe I've ever experienced a set of circumstances fall together in such a short amount of time, that directly resulted in a positive outcome such as this... I can say, sincerely, that this one felt really good," said one of the officers involved. The Winnipeg Police Service thanked the pawnshop owner for being so keen and working with their team. "Moments like this remind us why community matters."
