Summer-like heat lingers in Manitoba as fall begins
Environment Canada says the beginning of this week feels more like summer weather as we transition into autumn with temperatures well above normal. "We've been seeing a very warm air mass in place for much of southern Manitoba, and it's continuing this week," says Christy Climenhaga, a scientist with Environment and Climate Change Canada (EC). "Temperatures in the mid-20s for the early part of this week." Climenhaga says that the average temperatures this time of year are around 16 degrees Celsius. "It's been much warmer than that, and we've seen a lot of moisture in the region. It's been a lot muggier too." The much warmer-than-normal temperatures will be cooling off as the week goes on, according to EC. "We should start to see a little drier air moving in through the end of the week. Those humidity levels should start to come down a little bit." As per the weather models from EC, the autumn season looks to be slightly warmer than average. "We are still pulling for warmer-than-normal conditions for most of the country, but indeed for Manitoba around the Winnipeg area. That doesn't mean that every day is going to be hot. It just means that when all is said and done, there's a better chance for those above seasonal days than below seasonal days."
