WNMF Pre-Festival Special Event: Glacial Time (Open to Pass holders ONLY)

Friday, Jan 25, 2019 at 7:30 PM

Pavilion Sub Zero, The Forks, 1 Forks Market Rd, Winnipeg, Manitoba

WNMF 2019 opens with a characteristically unique event, held in a custom-designed ice amphitheater situated in The Forks on the frozen Assiniboine River. A collaboration with architect Peter Hargraves (Warming Huts), this newly created space will capture the essence of WNMF as a cultural oasis within the heart of the extreme Manitoba winter.

Norwegian artist and multi-instrumentalist Terje Isungset comes to Winnipeg to present a suite of his original music, featuring himself, vocalist Maria Skranes, and percussionists from the University of Manitoba music program performing on Isungset’s ice instruments, freshly carved for the occasion of this performance.

WSO Resident Conductor Julian Pellicano and percussionist Victoria Sparks lead the University of Manitoba Percussion Ensemble in the Canadian premiere of Inuksuit, an expansive work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Luther Adams as he continues his explorations in merging music, nature, and landscape.

This event – literally one of a kind – will have very limited seating.

Glacial Time is not included in the WNMF Pass. Individual tickets for Glacial Time are $25 +fees and available to WNMF Pass Holders only (Tickets are available as an add-on when purchasing a WNMF Pass).

Individual tickets for this event may be released at a later date (pending availability).
