Though the 150th anniversary of Manitoba joining Canada as the 5th province is still two years away, the provincial government wants to be prepared.

Sport, Culture and Heritage Minister Cathy Cox announced yesterday that a number of people will form a Manitoba 150 committee, which will be accepting ideas on how the province should mark Manitoba's 150th anniversary in 2020.

Cox will co-chair the committee alongside community leader and former Manitoba Progressive Conservative leader Stuart Murray.

"Manitoba has so much to celebrate. We want everyone to share in the excitement of our 150th and we'll be looking for inspiring ways to commemorate Manitoba's past and look ahead to our bright future," Cox said in a release. "We've gathered a great group of local experts together and we want to hear from people across the province who have ideas for events, projects and other initiatives."

Yesterday was Manitoba's 148th anniversary.
