The May long weekend liquor ban has been lifted in provincial campgrounds.

The Manitoba government has lifted the annual liquor ban in provincial campgrounds for this May long weekend. The ban has been in place since 1995.

"We know Manitobans love to get out and enjoy the great outdoors whenever possible, so we want to make this change and allow adults the opportunity to responsibly enjoy their experience at our provincial parks," said Sustainable Development Minister Rochelle Squires in a statement.

Alcohol-free camping will be available all season long in special camping bays at Birds Hill and Grand Beach.

The ban was originally put in place after a number of incidents took place directly related to alcohol. Since then, there has been a significant reduction in alcohol-related incidents.
