Winnipeg received measurable rainfall for the first time in a month Tuesday. More rain is in the forecast.

For the first time since April 12, Winnipeg received measurable precipitation as 0.2 millimetres of rain fell across the city. Thunderstorms were also spotted in the city, with a few lightning strikes hitting the ground nearby.

Justin Shaer from Environment Canada says that more rain could be on the way soon.

"Thursday we have a chance of showers," Shaer said. "A good chance throughout the day."

A low-pressure system forming in Alberta Wednesday will track east and reach Winnipeg by Thursday morning. By Thursday evening, the rain should be more persistent. Shaer is predicting 10-20 millimetres from Thursday night to Friday night.

"We can really green things up here and clean the streets," Shaer said. "I'm sure the farmers would be happy."

There is a chance that the bulk of the rain could fall east of Winnipeg but it's too early to say with any certainty.
