In to the 4 o’clock hour of the Diamond Lane Thursday, jazz artist Helen White performed and then joined Dr. Janet Brenneman for a conversation about Sweelinck and Swing! Missed it? Find it here!

Renaissance Voices, conducted by Dr. Janet Brenneman, is a Winnipeg-based chamber choir founded in 1995. They specialize in the promotion and performance of Sixteenth and early-Seventeenth Century music. 

Renaissance Voices continue in their annual choral celebration of Advent with a program titled: Sweelinck and Swing. A diverse program bringing together the 16th Century Dutch composer Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck with English-born, Manitoba Settled jazz artist Helen White. Highlights will include Sweelinck’s Nativity Motets and works by Diane Loomer, Healey Willan and Jonathan Quick. Helen White will perform jazz arrangements of traditional and contemporary holiday favourites, including a commissioned work by Jonathan Alexiuk with the choir.

As always, the concert will be presented in café style, with mulled wine and hot apple available. 

The concerts, Friday, December 8th and Saturday, December 9th take place at Young United Church. Doors open at 7:30pm with the concert beginning at 8. Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for students.
