Local singer Sheena Rattai was our studio with guitarist Aaron Shorr to perform a couple songs and chat about Sheena's upcoming concert featuring the music of David Bowie. Missed it? Watch the video here!
From opera to jazz to the folk band Red Moon Road, Rattai has had quite a journey so far in her young career. Rattai grew up in a musical family; she and her sister were taught by Rattai's mother, who sang and played piano. The RMR vocalist learned to harmonize "picking up third and fifth (notes)" at a very young age while singing in church. This evolved into school and the University of Manitoba Faculty of Music, where Rattai took opera for a year, before switching over to the jazz program.
It was great to hear all those influences and how they sound set to the music and lyrics of David Bowie.
Sheena Rattai's concert takes place on Feb 21 as part of the Music N' Mavens Series at the Rady JCC. Check here for more information and tickets.
