A three-year-old child is safe after being in the backseat of a stolen vehicle involved in a pursuit with police that started in Saskatchewan and ended in Manitoba.

The incident occurred on July 31, 2018, when RCMP in Creighton, Saskatchewan received reports of a stolen vehicle from Main Street in that community.

The three-year-old girl was in the back seat of the truck at the time. Reports indicated the vehicle was headed toward Flin Flon and members from the Creighton and Flin Flon RCMP Detachments responded immediately and pursued the vehicle.

RCMP say that the pursuit ended just outside of Cranberry Portage, Manitoba when the stolen vehicle struck a spike belt and rear-ended a vehicle.

The driver then got out and fled into the nearby bush. Police say they found the three-year-old unharmed in the back seat of the truck. The child was subsequently reunited with her mother.

Officers from three different detachments in Saskatchewan and Manitoba set up a perimeter in efforts to contain the male. A police dog from The Pas RCMP Police Dog Service Unit attended the scene and located the driver hiding under a vehicle in an outbuilding.

Police arrested an adult male who also sustained injuries from a police dog bite as well as from the collision. He was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been released into RCMP custody in Saskatchewan.
