Students from eight different Winnipeg schools were at Transcona Cemetery this morning, honouring veterans.

Hundreds of grade six students took in a Remembrance Day-like ceremony, standing at attention during The Last Post, and placing poppies on the graves of fallen soldiers.

The service was done through the No Stone Left Alone initiative. Coordinator Peter Martin said it touched his heart to see today's ceremony.

"It's hard to keep my emotion -- at one point I had trouble because you see all these children, these students being so serious and actually caring about Remembrance in a very special way," he said.

Student Mia-Bella Calderon says she's been learning about the First World War in school. She says today was a better experience than being in a classroom talking about it.

"Because I actually got to experience it and be here today with the soldiers and the veterans," said Mia-Bella.

Martin says the kids understand and appreciate what's going on.
