Groundswell continues their season with a concert entitled Lumieres Noires, and guest curator Örjan Sandred was on Morning Light with host Michael Wolch to provide more details about the concert.

Think you’ve heard everything? How about the vocal styles of a fictional culture, or the undefinable boundaries of a 3-dimensional musical space? GroundSwell is pleased to bring two celebrated Swedish musicians, Jonny Axelsson (percussion) and Fredrik Söhngen (oboe) to Winnipeg to collaborate with local musicians Allen Harrington, Oleg Pokhanovski, and Sarah Jo Kirsch for a rare performance. Lumières noires offers wild virtuoso instrumental and vocal performances fused with electronic sounds to create unique and evocative musical soundscapes.

Örjan Sandred moved to Winnipeg from Stockholm, Sweden in 2005 to join the Desautels Faculty of music at the University of Manitoba. Supported by grants from the Canada Foundation for Innovation and the Manitoba Research and Innovation Fund, he founded Studio FLAT- a studio for computer music research and production at the University of Manitoba. Previous to his current position he was teaching composition and electro-acoustic music at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm 1998-2005. In 2016 Örjan was a D.A.A.D. visiting professor at Hochschule für Musik Detmold in Germany.
