Since 1991, the G&S Society has been bringing these masterworks of late 19th century British comic operetta to life right here in Winnipeg. In their 27th season, they bring back the hilarious tale of Ruddigore, or what happens when a throng of petty nobles persecutes the wrong witch. A very unique curse lingers over these baronets of Ruddigore: they must commit some sort of crime every day or be violently ejected from the mortal coil. Balanced by a bone-chilling host of ghosts and a heart-warming love story, the shenanigans are plentiful and the music endlessly charming.
Ruddigore opens Thursday (April 20) night at 7:30. Three more shows follow Friday night (April 21) at 7:30, and both a matinee at 2:00 and the closing performance at 7:30 on Saturday (April 22). Tickets are available through the Manitoba Opera Box Office online at tickets.manitobaopera.mb.ca, or by calling (204) 957-7842.
