Two dogs died in a fire at a residence in River Heights over the weekend.

The City of Winnipeg says in a release that the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey home in the 700 block of Cordova Street around 1:22 p.m. on Saturday.

At the scene, firefighters attacked the fire from the inside, declaring the fire under control at 1:49 p.m.

All occupants safely self-evacuated before crews arrived. Two dogs at the residence died as a result of smoke exposure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
