Organizers are gearing up for a celebration at one of Winnipeg's best-known parks.

Assiniboine Park's annual National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration is happening on Saturday, June 22, one day after the official holiday.

“Our Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration is a wonderful and welcoming event that offers something for everyone,” said Joy K. Balmana, Manager of Community & Special Events, Assiniboine Park Conservancy in a news release.

“It is a joyful presentation of Indigenous traditions, talent, and artistry that has become an annual tradition for many park visitors.”

The events kick off at 11 a.m. and run until 5 p.m. at the Lyric Theatre and the outdoor gardens at the Leaf and are fit for the entire family.

There will be live music at the Lyric Theatre, food trucks, bouncy castles and other kid-friendly activities at the Lyric Field.

The Leaf will also play host to a number of activities. You can find live entertainment at the Performance Garden at the Leaf, a market featuring Indigenous and Métis creators at the Gardens at the Leaf, fire teachings with Cree Crowchild at the Fire Node in the Indigenous Peoples Garden at the Leaf, and book bike with Winnipeg Public Library in the Seasonal Garden at the Leaf.
