On Wednesday, December 29th the Women’s Musical Club of Winnipeg will presenting their annual scholarship winner's recital. The concert takes place at Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church at 7:30pm.

There are six wonderful young scholarship winners who will be performing on Wednesday the 29th. The recital will be continuing the Women’s Musical Club of Winnipeg’s long legacy of promoting young up-an-coming Manitoba musicians through both financial support and performance opportunities.

Violinist River Sawchyn is the winner of the WMC’s $1000 Berythe Birse Scholarship. A former student of Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Gwen Hoebig, River is now studying at the prestigious Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia.

Sawchyn will be performing the first two movements to Bruch’s marvelous 1st Violin Concerto in g minor on the scholarship winner’s recital. This is beautiful, lush romantic work for violin that is full of flair and virtuosity that Sawchyn is looking forward to playing for Winnipeg audiences.

Chris Wolf had the opportunity to talk with River Sawchyn about his performance on Wednesday, December the 29th. Click here to see to meet this outstanding young musician:
