A cat in Winnipeg needed some extra care after being rescued from an ice floe on the Assiniboine River.

The cat was rescued by Winnipeg Fire Paramedic personnel, after witnesses called 911.

Kyle Jahns, communications coordinator at the Winnipeg Humane Society, says the cat was brought to them Wednesday, and it was stressed. He says the cat was treated with antibiotics today.

Thanks to an ear tattoo and micro chip, the owners could be find and have been contacted. Jahns says the owners will pick up the cat tomorrow.
