A number of water and wastewater projects in Manitoba are receiving federal-provincial funding.

As well, the federal government is pitching in for five public transportation projects in Winnipeg, including: a rapid transit master plan and prioritization study, pedestrian and cycling bridges on Chief Peguis Trail, and protected bike lanes on McDermot Avenue and Bannatyne Avenue, as well as on Chevrier Boulevard and the Waverley Pathway Connection. The federal government is paying half the (total) $21.6-million cost of these projects.

Canada's minister of infrastructure and communities Amarjeet Sohi was among the people in Winnipeg yesterday announcing the funding. He says every project is prioritized by local governments in partnership with the province.

Mayor Brian Bowman says in order for the city to grow in a sustainable way, it needs strong federal and provincial partners.

As for the water and wastewater projects receiving funding, Winnipeg has two out of 11: Transcona sewer relief and north St. Boniface water main upgrades.
