Ice advance to Eastern Conference Championship

After sweeping the Moose Jaw Warriors 8-2 last night, the Winnipeg Ice find themselves moving on to WHL's Eastern Conference Championship Series for the second year in a row.

The Ice took game five on Saturday and then took the best of seven series 4-2 on Monday night.

Zach Ostapchuk opened up the scoring in the first period with Vladislav Shilo following his lead a minute later.

The Ice left no room for mercy in the second period as Connor McClennon then scored back-to-back goals with Conor Geekie also finding the back of the net twice. Along with goals from Graham Sward and Evan Friesen.

It wasn't until the second period with Warriors' Denton Mateychuk put them on the board. Jagger Firkus gave them their second goal in the third period.

Winnipeg outshot Moose Jaw 40-27, with Daniel Hauser earning the victory in net with 25 saves.

The Saskatoon Blades and the Red Deer Rebels, who are tied in the series 3-3, play again tonight, and the winner of the game will be who the Ice play against next in round three.

The first game of the Eastern Conference Championship Series will be held on Friday, April 28 at 6 p.m., and game two on Saturday, April 29 at 4 p.m.

On the other end, The Seattle Thunderbirds play the Kamloops Blazers in the Western Conference Championship.
