Changes will be coming tomorrow to the Premier's Cabinet on Thursday morning.

A Progressive Conservative Member has left her post as Indigenous relations minister.

Eileen Clarke has resigned from her Cabinet. She will continue her work as the MLA for the Agassiz Constituency.

A representative from Clarke's office says early Wednesday afternoon she is not responding to media requests out of respect for the current Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs election. Later that day Arlen Dumas was re-elected as Grand Chief.

Wednesday afternoon, Manitoba's Premier and the leader of Clarke's party, Brian Pallister declined to speak about the resignation's details.

"I have nothing but respect, and love, and admiration for my friend Eileen Clarke," Pallister says, noting that he has known her since he was 21 and was the one to convince her to join provincial politics. He says the Indigenous ministry is difficult work, commending Clarke for her efforts. Clarke was appointed to this role in 2016.

Pallister refused to share what Clarke told him about her reason for the resignation, saying he has tremendous respect for her.

The Premier stands by his highly criticized comments made last week regarding reconciliation. Many indigenous leaders have spoken against the comments made last week, to which Pallister says "everybody is entitled to their own opinion." He says he has worked on reconciliation over the past two decades.

The role of Indigenous Relations is expected to be filled during a Thursday ceremony.
