Thunderstorms have left Manitoba but not before dropping some massive hail on various parts of the province.

David Matthews took photos of hail that fell in Alexander last night, and he's had a hectic morning speaking to media.

Matthews says he's seen large hail before but not like this.

Matthews says the hail came twice, in two-minute spurts. He says curiosity is what took him outside, and he did get pelted in the back and shoulder, which he describes as like a mild punch.

"I think if it you on the head or temple it could be very dangerous."

Warning preparedness meteorologist Natalie Hasell says the storms started in the west last night and went east. She says, in addition to what they got in Alexander, hail in Medora was reported at 64 millimetres across, 40 millimetre hail fell in Treherne, 28 in Carmen, and St. Adolphe had hailstones at about 45 millimetres in diameter.

Winnipeg had quite a light show early this morning, but we were spared the giant hail.
