In a four-game sweep against the Saskatoon Blades, the Winnipeg Ice move on to the WHL Championship Series for the fourth time in history.

In an intense game last night, the Ice beat the Blades 3-2 to earn the victory.

The opposing team came in strong as Aiden De La Gorgendiere scored the first goal at 15:08 in the first period, but Connor McClennon was quick to respond with a power play goal at 18:40. He then scored again in the second period.

Trevor Wong from the Blades tied the score at the beginning of the third, but it was Briley Wood who scored the game-winning goal for the Ice.

Matthew Savoie chipped in with two assists giving him 27 points in 14 games. Savoie is tied for the WHL post-season lead in points with Logan Stankoven of Kamloops. McClennon leads all WHL players with 13 playoff goals.

This victory will be the fourth time in Ice history that they've made it to the WHL Championship Series, the other times being in 2000, 2002 and 2011.

Winnipeg now awaits the winner of the 2023 Western Conference Championship presented by Nutrien between the Seattle Thunderbirds and Kamloops Blazers. Seattle leads the best-of-seven series 2-1, with Game Four tomorrow (Thursday) in Kamloops.

The first two games will be hosted at the Ice Cave inside the Wayne Flemming Arena on Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13.
